The new school Goumoëns in Bern is located within a clearing of a beautiful park in the southern part of Bern. The design implements minimal footprint and vertical concept of the building program to preserve as much of the existing trees as possible. The 5 storey school connects to its surroundings via open “beletage” – an elevated ground floor with spacious terrace linked directly to the surrounding park. The classrooms are located in the floors above. The gym is situated in a central position in the underground floors.
